Welcome Packet Content

Forms to return before camp

  1. Sign and mail or email your contract(s). Please contact Eva if your information on the contract is incorrect.
  2. Please email Eva any dietary restrictions/allergies/etc and provide a list of first and last names of any guests you will be bringing and their dietary restrictions.  All guests must be cleared through the Program Director before attending camp and Eva must be notified in advance for housing availibility at hogisland@audubon.org. If they plan on volunteering, please notify us in advance. Otherwise, guests will either be expected to tag along with you for the week or they will be doing independent activities on Hog Island. Boat trips and van trips are often space limited so please check with Eva before they depart with you that there will be space.  All guests must fill out a Liability/photo release. We will need one each year for guests. Instructor liability is now outlined in your contract.
  3. If you are a new instructor, please fill out and email your W-9 to hogisland@audubon.org
  4. If you are a new instructor, please email a copy of your Driver's License to hogisland@audubon.org
  5. If you are working during Teen Weeks, Field Ornithology, Puffins Islands, or Family Camps please read over the National Audubon Society Youth Protection Guidelines and read through this Youth Protection Presentation. You must sign a Youth Protection Agreement once at camp but these documents will serve as your training.  All instructors during weeks that have minors will undergo a background check. Eva will email you directly background check forms if you are due, they are valid for 3 years.

To be paid for honorarium: Sign your personlized contract and email to hogisland@audubon.org

To be paid for travel expenses: You will be paid the travel amount on your contract unless travel is less, in that case please provide mileage or receipts to be reimbursed.

For reimbursement for purchase of supplies: All items must be purchased by Program Manager - contact us at hogisland@audubon.org at least a month in advance.

All paperwork should be emailed to hogisland@audubon.org

Schedule of events (general for all sessions)
Arrival: Saturday before the program start date there will be shuttles to the island at 2pm, 4pm, 6pm and 8:30pm (please ask your Program Director for specifics concerning arrival time and dinner).  Ususally instructors arrive during the earlier hours and depart at 6pm for dinner and return at 8:30pm after dinner.  Each program director will decide if they are planning a pre-staff meeting on Saturday - typically these are done for Family Camp and Educator's Week.
Sunday: Breakfast will be continental and provided in The Bridge - usually a short staff meeting follows with Hog Island staff and FOHI volunteers.  Lunch will be catered.
Campers arrive Sunday between 2-4pm (teen camps arrive between 1-3) and all instructors should be all hands-on deck.
Departure: Campers depart on Friday after breakfast. Please plan for a short staff wrap-up meeting after their departure at 9am.
Travel arrangements off island can be made with Eva or Eric for departing on Friday.  Please have your room packed and ready for departure after breakfast so the FOHI can clean the staff rooms and get them ready for the next group of instructors.
